Set up your calendar
There is nothing worse than only realizing that night before that your kids don’t actually have school the next day. One of the first things that I do at the start of every school year is to sync my calendar with the school’s. This can be easily done whether you use a paper or digital calendar. Just head on over to your school’s website and make note of all the days off, special events and school breaks.
Back Up School Supplies
Having a small stash of school supplies can come in very handy when your kid runs out of glue sticks in January and they are all of the sudden hard to find, or have had their prices jacked up once the back-to-school sales have ended. I like to keep a small backstock of the supplies they tend to run through and need to replace during the year. Try using a bin or storage box as it creates a defined space and limits so that you don’t end up with an overabundance of supplies. Having a designated place to put the supplies, so that you know exactly where they are saves you time and money.
Snack and Lunch Stations
Setting up a snack station for kid’s lunches helps them with their independence, teaches them responsibility and takes some of the workload off of you. It also helps to ensure that your kids will eat what’s in their lunch since they were given the autonomy to choose it themselves. It’s a good idea to have a designated area, like in a bin or basket, that is dedicated to their school snacks and their school lunch containers. Having that separation makes things much easier to find and grab quickly.
Morning Routine Checklist
Having a morning checklist can be really helpful for the little ones going to school for the first time, or even your older ones that have difficulty keeping track of time. Setting up these habits and making expectations clear helps to keep everyone on track throughout the year. Feel free to download and print this MORNING ROUTINE CHECKLIST to use with your child. You can laminate it or cover it with clear shelf liner so that it can be used again and again with a dry erase marker.
